Presentation Basics

Work today was a little different. A bunch of us spent the day away from our desks at a presentation skills course. Public speaking and all that jazz.

Standing in front of colleagues and presenting to them.
In the boardroom.
All eyes on you.
Everyone encouraged to critique and offer feedback.

Yuck.

Bad day to rush the clothing choices.
Terrible day to realise you’ve had your collared blouse inside out all morning.

…how does one leave the house with a collar inside out?
Of all the things it could happen with

Embarrassing.
But easily sorted with a quick trip to the ladies for a quick readjustment.

And now I can present publicly with a little more confidence. Key part being ‘a little‘.

What’d you do today to help you reach your non-fitness related goals?

Off to a Good Start

20121026-185409.jpgDon’t mind me, I’m just making myself comfortable here on the train. I’ve got the table in front of me sorted: Coke Zero, rice ball, iPad and ten-trip train ticket. I’m styling dark wash jeans, bare feet and one hard-core bun that I wore to work. Glee tunes rocking through the headphones. My Friday night is well and truly rockin’. Be jealous.

The train is just pulling out of the station, the evening sun is burning into my sunglass-less eyes and the child in the seat infront may or may not have just, erm, soiled something. I still love public transport, though. Maybe that’s even why I prefer it. The people watching. The stories. This train (from the city to the Wairarapa) has offered many stories since my parents moved out there in 2010. If you behave you might even get to hear some. One day.

All in all, it’s been a pretty good week.

I turned 24 on Sunday, to much hypothetical fanfare and confetti. I particularly enjoyed the confetti. I’m told that this does not make me old, just… closer to being not-so-young. I’ll take it. Afterall, growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.

I also realised that I now fit my fitted pant suit. Note I said fit, not fit into. Success! This is a suit my parents bought me four years ago for a job interview that got me out of one dark, nasty place, and (in a round-about-way) helped me land the career-making job I’m in today. They are clearly magic, life-changing pants. Whoot.

And to round off the week-of-awesome, I’m on the way to my parents place to visit The Dogs. Including the gorgeous Nelson (below, at 8 weeks) who since moving in with my olds has become quite the gangly-limbed gentleman (see the photo taken by Mum for my birthday, above, he’s the one on the right). Yup, my Fur Baby is awesome. Like the two gorgeous wonder-boys he gets to live with.

Party at Amy’s parents’ this weekend!

Business or Pleasure?

I flew up to Auckland on Thursday afternoon for work, and pushed my return flight out toSunday evening so I could take advantage of a weekend in NZ’s largest city.

Last night work put us up at the Stamford Plaza, the hotel Lady Gaga stayed in when she was recently in Auckland. Not that we claim to be of that calibre (it just happens to be one of the closer hotels to our Auckland office)

But because I was staying on, I had to sort my own accommodation for tonight (Friday) and tomorrow. Sadly, my budget isn’t comparable to my generous employers’. But I found a clean, tidy hotel in the middle of the CBD in my price range and it has a gym so I’m sorted. I only checked in a couple of hours ago and it’s already got my tick of approval.

But it could have more to do with the lovely message from The Boyfriend waiting for me when I arrived. I’m a lucky girl.

Tomorrow I’m hitting the gym. No excuses. Then a full day of shopping, which I’m sure I’ll make the most of.
