Squats are… fantastic. They’re painful, motivating and awe-inspiring. Feeling the burn is almost the whole point. Almost.
Because you can’t forget the magical butt-shaping powers of the squat.
Working through a session of intense thigh-burning can make or break my day. Making my way up and down a set of stairs the next day can be opps-I-have-to-take-these-sideways awkward. And I can definitely feel it in my butt.
Not the I’m-totally-doing-this-wrong pain. Not like I’ve done damage. But like there is very definitely some changes afoot. Progress!
It feels great for the first couple of days. Then, another 150 squats or so later, it’s back. But it’s not so quick to leave...
Do you get this too? How do you deal with it? Hot, steamy bath? Warm shower with some decent pressure?
Does anyone else find that they ache for a massage by the end of the week?

When I used to literally live at the gym, squats were a main stable in my workout regimen; they definitely played a part in the toning of my legs and back end lol:)
I am feeling your pain literally!! I did 600 squats last night and am currently in a whole bunch of pain. I am dealing with it by doing cardio tonight and streeeetching my butt muscles. And then maybe having an epsom salts bath.
Wow, 600?!? You certainly deserve that bath m’dear!
I got a cold the next day and was unable to workout to stretch out the muscles, and thus have been sore for a few days now!!! Hoping I can heal and go back on Monday.
Cold shower/ice baths are gonna help with soreness as well as, or so I’ve heard, pickle juice. Mmmm….
Pickle juice? Curious… Any idea why?
Keep rockin’ it lady!!! I couldn’t stand up from a chair for the past two days
Feels awesome, right?!
Sometimes when my legs feel like that I just slide down the steps in a laundry basket instead of walking. If you have pillows at the bottom it doesn’t even really hurt.
But seriously – invest in a foam roller. If you always do the right thing all the time, after a squat heavy workout, use it. If you’re lazy like me, wait til the next day when the pain sets in and then use it. It’s like a one time investment self massage. And it feels awesome!
