Am I A Runner?

I’ve been running for a little while now – about, what? Five weeks? I’m not very good at it, but I enjoy it. I’ve found a way to build my C25K training into my routine, and I’m making progress. I’m not running races, but I’m still getting off the couch and running for the sake of it.

So, at what point do I call myself a runner?
Is there a certain amount of time that must pass before I get a figurative Runners Badge? Am I an associate runner, a runner in training?
Or am I runner just for lacing up my shoes and giving it a go?

I’m still not sure.

Today I finished week four of the C25K programme for the second time, and I’m no entirely sure that I’m ready to move on. What’s the take on repeating weeks more than once? I’m bored with week four after the same six runs (4min, 6min, 4min) so I’m going to give week five a shot.

And I’ll be honest – I’m not really feeling it at the moment. Running. Is it because I’m actually bored? Or is it because it’s getting hard? Is it just not my thing?

Any advice?

And does it make me any less of a runner?

  2. I wouldn’t worry about it, there’s no membership requirements, but since you’ve been running four about 5 weeks I think you can call yourself one. Welcome to the club!

  3. If you are running, you are a runner. That’s it. If you put those shoes on and get out there, that’s enough. There is no required time frame, speed, or pace that qualifies you. At least, in my humble runner’s opinion! :)

  4. I would say don’t repeat. The program is designed to train your body for more and you can do it :) I felt totally like you. Now, I am at week 7 and running 22 minutes straight! I won’t say I love the running when it is happening, but I sure feel proud when I’m finished! I like the way my brain feels and the way my legs look. I say press on!

  5. Not feeling it? Yeah that happens to me too. It helps me to have a small but significant milestone to work toward. (Right now it’s 5k in 30 minutes.) But that only gets me half way. I have to have an end goal that I REALLY want (Marathon)! You sure have lots of goals which is great! keep it up!
